It’s been a fun week! I’ve been deep into creating a new series called DaVinci Resolve in 3 Minutes—quick, bite-sized tutorials you can actually finish with your coffee. The response has been awesome. A lot of you asked for more tutorials in the recent survey, so that’s the plan going forward.

I’ll be mixing these tutorials into the newsletter more often, along with any new tools or cool things I find floating around the post-production world. If you ever spot something worth sharing, send me an email and let me know.

Power Grades
How to use PowerGrades and the Gallery in DaVinci Resolve to streamline your color workflow efficiently.
I was surprised how many people use them but never dove into the features that really help speed up your workflow.

Primary Wheels Deep Dive
Go beyond the basics, learn what all the extra controls around the wheels actually do.
I haven’t covered all the wheels(HDR Wheels) yet, but I focused on the Primary Wheels and their surrounding settings, seems like that hit home for a lot of folks.

Curve Variations Explained
Custom curves are just the start. Discover the other curve types hiding in plain sight.
Most people use the big default curve, but not many explore all the other options hiding right next to it.

Power Windows & Tracking
Isolate and track areas for targeted color work—without the usual confusion.
This one breaks down how to use power windows, track them, and cleanly isolate areas. Simple but essential stuff.

Proxy Generator Tips
Speed up your workflow and now, yes—even generate ProRes proxies on Windows & Linux.
I was surprised how many people hadn’t heard of the Proxy Generator. With the latest update, it supports ProRes outside of macOS now, which is a nice touch.

3 & 4 Point Editing
Trim faster with classic techniques that still work great for modern timelines.
If you’re cutting longer timelines, this one’s a must. It shows how to trim more efficiently without overthinking it.

Metadata Keywords
Master smart bins, metadata, and tagging fast! Learn how to organize clips in Resolve like a pro.
I shared a quick use case around editing wedding videos and how smartphone metadata, especially keywords, can actually help.

Take Selector
Combine multiple takes into a single clip for a cleaner, more manageable timeline.
I wrapped the weekend with this one. Great for when you have too many takes clogging up your timeline.

NAB Is Almost Here

Right now, it feels like everyone is holding their cards close. Not much has leaked ahead of NAB next week, so we’re all kind of in wait mode. I’ve mostly seen stuff about new storage tech, but nothing from the big software players yet.

That said, Blackmagic Design is teasing something for April 4 at 8am PDT / 11am EDT. If you’re into broadcast, post, or cameras, it might be worth tuning in to see what they’ve got planned. To watch: Blackmagic Design NAB 2025 updates
