Magic Lantern Returns + Lumix & Blackmagic Updates

This week, we’re diving into some fantastic news: a legendary camera firmware makes a surprise return, major updates hit Lumix and Blackmagic cameras, and we’ve got powerful tools to streamline your audio and video workflows. Let’s get to it!
Magic Lantern Firmware Returns
Remember Magic Lantern for Canon cameras? That cool open-source firmware, run from the card, that added features like HDR recording? It always had a “use at your own risk” vibe, as it could affect your warranty. Things went quiet after 2020.
But guess what? A new team, led by “names_are_hard,” has revived it! They inherited a tough situation with messy code and little documentation. They’ve worked hard to fix things and are now releasing new, tested builds on their main site.
So, what does this mean for you? Old supported cams still work. Newer ones like the 200D and 6D Mark II now get useful tools like an intervalometer. The team aims to support even newer models, maybe even mirrorless, in the future!
ARRI Log C3 Coming to Lumix S1 Cameras
Lumix has a free firmware update for their S1 series cameras on June 24th. Big for post: ARRI Log C3 support is coming (via a paid key)! This means footage with awesome dynamic range, perfect for deep color grades in your favorite software.
This update adds helpful tools too. Multiple frame markers let you visualize crops for various platforms right on set. The S1R Mark II also gets 8K Open Gate for reframing flexibility in your edit, plus Bluetooth timecode for smoother syncing.
Other nice touches include wireless tethering with Capture One and better in-camera focus stacking, reducing some post work. It’s all about empowering creators with tools that help streamline the journey from capture to final product. Worth checking out!
Blackmagic Camera 9.6 Update
Blackmagic just dropped Camera Update 9.6. It brings cool stuff for the Micro Studio Camera 4K G2, like PYXIS monitor support. Now, framing and focus are simpler with touchscreen control. Best part? One USB-C cable does video, power, and control!
Also new is 3D LUT toggling on the SDI out for that camera. You can easily switch between your original shot and one with a LUT. This helps compare looks quickly, making it easier to choose the best one for your image or make tweaks.
Want to try these new features? Blackmagic Camera 9.6 update is ready now. You can grab it as a free download directly from Blackmagic Design’s website. Go check it out if you use this camera!

Peakto Pro: New AI Tool for Your Video Workflow
Heard about Peakto Pro from CYME? It’s a new AI-powered tool for teams to manage huge video libraries. Think of it as a smart hub for your photos and videos. Plus, its AI runs on your computer, keeping your content private.
This tool helps prep footage for your edit. You can make sub-clips, add markers, and organize bins to send to DaVinci Resolve or other NLEs. It supports Blackmagic RAW, shows timecodes, and handles LUTs, making clip finding easier too.
For teams, Peakto Pro allows sharing a central library while files stay on your computers. Members search and access media via a web viewer—no cloud needed. It’s built for Macs, especially newer ones, and you can get it through a subscription. (More)
