Post-Production Power-Ups: DaVinci Resolve, Frame.io Updates & More!

This week we’ll be covering DaVinci Resolve’s automatic audio syncing, The Last of Us Season 2’s production (behind-the-scenes), Frame.io updates, a new Laowa lens, and an improved RØDE Wireless Micro.

I Synced 45 Hours of Audio in 3 Minutes

Let’s talk about a lifesaver in post-production: DaVinci Resolve’s automatic audio syncing. I recently used it on a HUGE project—45 hours of video and audio, lots of separate files! Talk about a headache waiting to happen.

The project was filmed in a noisy factory, using separate cameras and mics. No time for fancy clapper boards! So I had a mess of video and audio files to sync. Luckily, I knew about Resolve’s amazing auto-sync.

Before recording, set the time and date on all your devices. This helps if the auto-sync has trouble; you can still match things up manually. Also, make sure your cameras record audio. Even if it’s not great, it provides scratch audio for Resolve to use in syncing your cleaner mic audio.

In DaVinci Resolve, highlight all your video and audio files. Right-click, select “Auto Sync Audio,” and choose “Synchronize using waveform.” That’s it!

It worked surprisingly well, even with all the factory noise. It even handled clips split into multiple audio files, adding the extra files to separate audio tracks. It’s completely non-destructive; it just links the audio and video.

This saved me a TON of time. Imagine manually syncing hundreds of clips! It would have taken forever. The auto-sync feature did it all in about three minutes. Seriously!

Give it a try next time you have separate audio and video recordings. You’ll thank me later. Happy editing!
