DaVinci Resolve 19.1.3 Update + New Tools Coming Your Way!
DaVinci Resolve 19.1.3 is here, I also chatted with the creators of a new Resolve script to help with captions. Plus, Meta is getting into editing software, a breakdown of Resolve’s slow-motion settings, and exciting news 🥳 I’m back to building tools! Dive in for all the details and links.
Blackmagic design released a new update this morning DaVinci Resolve 19.1.3
If you were one of the unlucky people that had issues with Fusion templates not working from what I see in the patch notes that was resolved. I had a few people reach out voicing problems with Fusion templates so I hope said problems are behind us.

Caption Cat for DaVinci Resolve
I had a chance to talk with the creator of Caption Cat, a handy tool for DaVinci Resolve users. If you’re looking to streamline your captioning process, this might be worth checking out. Designed to work directly in Resolve, Caption Cat offers a simple way to create animated captions without needing any external apps or subscriptions.
The tool supports over 100 languages, works with Resolve’s transcription features or its own engine, and uses customizable templates that function like Resolve’s regular title templates. This means you can easily tweak captions to fit your project.
If captions are a regular part of your workflow, it’s worth exploring! https://aescripts.com/caption-cat-for-davinci-resolve/
Meta Steps Into Mobile Video Editing With ‘Edits’
Meta just announced they’re jumping into the mobile editing game with a new app called ‘Edits,’ right as CapCut vanishes from app stores. Instagram’s head Adam Mosseri says it’s hitting iPhones next month, with Android coming later. They’re pitching features like inspiration tabs, idea tracking, built-in camera tools, and draft sharing with collaborators – plus analytics to track how your videos perform on Instagram.
If I had to guess, this will probably be another simplified video editor aimed at folks just dipping their toes into content creation. I can already see the emails coming in asking if my DaVinci Resolve titles will work in this thing.
Getting Back to Building More Cool Tools – What’s On Your Wish List?
I’m finally back into the flow and ramping up development of new tools and effects. After taking some time to recharge, I’m excited to dive back in and create stuff that actually helps your workflow. This isn’t just about making random tools – I want to build things you’ll actually use.
Drop me an email at [email protected] and let me know what’s missing from your toolkit. I’ve got my own ideas brewing, but your real-world needs are what really drive the best solutions. And hey, who knows – your suggestion might be exactly what everyone else has been waiting for too.
Mastering Slow Motion! Options explained for Retime Process and Motion Estimation.
When creating slow-motion effects in DaVinci Resolve, selecting the appropriate “Retime Process” and “Motion Estimation” settings is crucial. As they can play a pretty significant role in either quality of results and the render time duration.
Retime Process Options:
- Nearest: Fastest method; duplicates or drops frames, which can result in choppy motion.
- Frame Blend: Blends adjacent frames to smooth motion; may cause ghosting effects.
- Optical Flow: Analyzes motion to create new frames, producing smoother slow motion.
Motion Estimation Modes (for Optical Flow):
- Standard Faster: Prioritizes processing speed; suitable for basic slow-motion needs.
- Standard Better: Offers improved motion analysis for cleaner results; moderately increases render time.
- Enhanced Faster: Provides superior quality with faster processing than Enhanced Better; balances performance and quality.
- Enhanced Better: Delivers high-quality motion estimation; more computationally intensive.
- Speed Warp: Utilizes the DaVinci Neural Engine for top-tier slow-motion effects; requires significant processing power and is available only in DaVinci Resolve Studio.
Experiment with these settings to find the optimal balance between smoothness and rendering time, considering your hardware capabilities.
Keep creating, stay curious, and never stop pushing your creative boundaries!
Stay creative,
